The Dreamforce 2026 marketing keynote outlined a future where marketers spend less time managing campaign mechanics and more time guiding business outcomes.

Sanna Halttunen-Välimaa attended Dreamforce 2026 in San Francisco and shares observations and insights for organizations using Salesforce or evaluating their future CRM and customer experience strategy. "The marketing keynote didn't focus on a single breakthrough announcement. Instead, it showed how a collection of technologies is gradually changing the way marketing teams plan, execute, and optimize their work.”

A different role for marketing

The marketing keynote A New Model for Growth felt familiar at first: audiences, content, channels, and campaign performance.

The difference was who, or what, would make the next decision.

Salesforce's vision for Marketing Cloud places more responsibility on systems that can analyze signals, recommend actions, and adjust execution. Marketers continue to set priorities, define goals, and maintain brand standards, but software takes on a larger share of operational work.

That represents a meaningful change in how marketing teams spend their time.

Campaigns can respond instead of wait

One of the strongest ideas in the keynote was that campaigns should respond continuously to new information.

Salesforce highlighted capabilities such as Campaign Agent, adaptive journeys, and automated optimization. Together, these tools point toward a model where campaigns adjust based on goals and performance signals rather than following a fixed sequence of steps.

For marketers, this shifts focus away from constant manual optimization.

The work moves closer to deciding what success looks like and how it should be measured.

Buying signals connect marketing and sales

The keynote also emphasized turning buying signals into pipeline.

One example was Piper, an agent designed to help manage inbound engagement and move opportunities forward more quickly.

The broader point is that marketing and sales increasingly depend on the same signals, context, and objectives.

Rather than treating marketing-qualified leads as a finish line, organizations can build processes that maintain momentum throughout the buying cycle.

That creates a stronger connection between marketing activity and business results.

The marketer's role is evolving

The future described at Dreamforce still needs skilled marketers.

Organizations need people who understand customers, shape brand experiences, make commercial decisions, and define priorities. Those responsibilities become more important as technology handles a greater share of execution.

The challenge is no longer "How do we launch more campaigns?"

A more useful question may be:

"How do we create the conditions for better decisions and better outcomes?"

What this means for marketing leaders

The most successful teams will not necessarily adopt every new AI feature that appears.

They will build reliable customer data, clear measurement frameworks, and practical governance around automated decision-making.

Marketing is gradually moving closer to strategy and business performance. Dreamforce 2026 provided a glimpse of how that transition may unfold.
